I make them lighter and use modern cooking techniques,” he said. At the newly opened Hotel Torre Fiore, a 10-minute drive from the small hilltop city of Pisticci, the addictive ricotta cheese served at the breakfast buffet is made by a local cheese artisan whose family has been making ricotta for six generations. The hotel, surrounded by wildflowers and fields of grain, was once a masseria (a farmhouse with fortified walls typical of southern Italy) built by a wealthy landowner. Now it is a dream realized by the current owner, John Giannone, who was born in Pisticci, but emigrated to Toronto. It was originally planned as a vacation home for his family, but his middle-aged children became so enthusiastic about the area’s potential that they decided to turn it into a boutique hotel with a pool and 13 suites.
To truly appreciate the culture of Italy and the region of Basilicata, it is essential to experience the aromas and flavours that infuse and define its cuisine. Hotel guests and visitors will savour this occasion at Patio Della Torre Ristorante. Fine genuine cuisine using local artisanal traditions and seasonal ingredients, with an occasional International intervention.
COVID-19
I am taking this opportunity to inform you that we have decided to temporarily close Hotel Torre Fiore and Ristorante this 2021 year.
The decision was a difficult one. However we felt that our priority is to ensure the health and safety of our guests and employees by doing our part to help contain the virus.
Our mission at Torre Fiore has always been to provide a safe haven for our guests and support them throughout their stays by connecting them to our region's surrounding towns, beaches, itineraries and attractions. These venues provided our guests with the ultimate experience.
We do not know whether these venues will choose to open and how the public will comply with all the guidelines and protocols.
To our international travellers, we understand that traveling to and from Italy presents its own set of restrictions, risks and complications.
Our hearts go out to each of you during these challenging times. Ultimately, we are optimistic about the future and are looking forward to welcoming you back. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves, your families, and communities.
Know that we are apart for now
- but in this together.
